Mix sugar, salt and cocoa. add water to make paste. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Boil for 3 minutes. Add vanilla and pour at once into a jar. Let cool completely before putting in refrigerator. Makes 2 cups.

This is the recipe I use often It is great! If you haven't read the ingredient list on Hershey's syrup I urge everyone who uses it to do so. That is why I decided to make my own chocolate syrup. The ingredient list scared the heck out of me!

This is a rich chocolate syrup that is much healthier than the store bought ones, cheaper too!
Bring water to boil. Add sugar, salt and butter. Using sifter, add cocoa and stir well.
Cook at boil for 5 minutes or until desired thickness is reached.
Remove from heat and add vanilla. Cover and refrigerate. Add to milk or ice cream.
Makes about 2 cups.
