New Solenoid in Ice Maker Remains Open Too Long?

I have a side by side Kenmore fridge, I just replaced the ice maker water solenoid because it had stuck open and burned up (flooding the kitchen). Upon installation the new one stays open way too long, as well. What would cause the solenoid to remain open too long. I don't want to burn up another 75$ part. Or do I just replace the ice maker?
