Scorched Sugar on a Pan?

I need advice for removing scorched sugar from a pan.

Pour boiling water on it, over and over again. Let the boiling water set on the sugar to loosen it and then pour, ...

If it is not a non-stick pan, wet the pan but not too wet, put baking soda on the spot and rub it with your finger. It may take a while but it should eventually come off.
