We made a organizing center out of boxes that Christmas presents came in. We covered them with contact paper and taped them together. Now my son has somewhere for all of his school supplies.

Basically, a very good idea. You might think about adding some additional cardboard in corners, and even doubling the cardboard to increase the stability and reduce sag. The unit will last a lot longe.

I really like your idea!
I needed an idea to clear a room of office supplies and then return same in an orderly fashion and your "boxes" idea can get me started.
This little project speaks volumes. When I look at the picture, I see memories have been made, memories of mother and child sharing time and creativity. Do keep the picture. I'm sure when your son is grown, he will want to look at it occasionally....and someday, show it to his son.
