Extend the Life Of Sponges

Extend the life of your kitchen sponge by putting it in the dishwasher along with your dishes.

Was warned by dishwasher repairman that this really isn't a good idea because there is often enough hand dishwashing soap remaining in the sponge to make too many suds, make dishwasher inefficient, &/or cause harm to the works of the dishwasher, unnecessary repairs or shorter dishwasher life. I now put mine in the clothes washing machine w/ a load of kitchen towels that are bleached. Air dry (been known to throw them in dryer--oops -- could be a fire hazard).

I've put sponges in the dishwasher, and think it works excellently. Just be sure you rise the sponge well before putting on the rack.

One better, when I do my whites in hot and use bleach, I throw my sponge in there. Gives me an extra week or so.

I do like Sandra Gilbert and run mine in the dishwasher. I dont use the hot dry cycle though.
