Caution when Reusing Food Containers

I have a habit of re-using containers from food and drink items. This morning my visiting son yelled to me that the coffee creamer had gone bad. I knew immediately what had happened.

I use the flavored refrigerated creamer for coffee. When it was empty, I cleaned it out and put mixed pancake batter in it. Easy and simple way to have your pancake batter ready to go in the morning without having to mix every day.

Well you guessed it! He had grabbed the container with the batter and poured himself a big dollop in his coffee! You'd think he would learn after his big glass of hummingbird food "kool-aid" (stored in a half gallon milk container) he enjoyed last Spring.

I would think you would have learned to mark your containers before something happens you will regret.

Why don't you put a label on the container saying what you put in there? That could help everyone else in the family with identifying the contents.

We bought a Dymo label maker for our canning and freezing, it was around $19, get one then maybe he'll stop yelling at his Mother (shame on him). :)

Plain old masking tape does the trick for labeling. You can remove the lable after use very easily and re-use the container.

I am normally the only person in my home so really don't need to label as I know what's in which container.
Guess I'd better label next time he comes to visit.

At my age (70), although I now live alone I still need to label what I store/freeze or else I forget what it is.
