I live at the bottom of a small mountain and also have a large field behind my home. Every morning when I let my dogs out, I change the water in their water bowl and also the two large bowls I have out on my deck for the birds. I also have gotten in the habit of leaving out bread for the birds and squirrels after I change their water I then walk over to my neighbor's fence and call out chick, chick, chick and his rooster comes to the fence and I toss him some bread too.
I get a really nice selection of birds to watch to include cardinals, blue jays, blue birds who by the way are absolutely gorgeous, morning doves, robins and even a few humming birds. Plus others I don't know the names of, but are very pretty. I've noticed with time that baby birds, now full grown return to my yard every spring. I know blue jays are mean but because I feed them, they actually leave me alone where they have zoomed and terrified my dog Emma.
Anyway, this year I have a baby squirrel that has returned and practically stalks me. He sits on my deck and actually stares at me through my window. I asked my husband to look at the squirrel to see if it seemed to him that it was glaring at us through the glass and he agreed it was.
Not only does it glare and watch me move about my kitchen but he also makes himself very comfortable and actually stretches out on the deck on his stomach as if he's taking a nap. He's a cute little thing and I love watching him.

I too have a deck out my kitchen windows. The deck is attached to a gigantic weeping willow tree. Many families of squirrels live in this old tree and use the deck as their personal lounging area. They do the same thing, stretch out on the railings and take in the sun. I have watched them many times fall asleep while stretched out. They know they are safe there. I feed them, which is probably not a good idea as some people say they will chew through the wires to the house, but so far no damage.
Oh except for the summer I put out new cushions on the swing and the very next morning there were big holes in 2 of them. I was furious, but I still feed them, I just bring the cushions in at night now. It's hard to stay mad at a squirrel.
Good photos, Carolee.
What a wonderful view you have! Enjoy it for all its worth.
