To save money on curtain finials, re-use old vintage knobs. If you can' find a curtain rod long enough for your needs, a piece of thin PVC pipe works! Just cut to size and sand the ends and attach your finials.

Great idea. I used to work in a interior design shop and we would take the carpet rolls to cut down for the large curtain rods that used to be "in". We would sew a tube the size of the roll in a contrasting fabric, gather it on and take a styrofoam ball covered in the fabric and glue it on the end for the finial.
Great tips, I'm tired of paying for all those finials. I've also done the styrofoam ball and it works great, but you do have to finesse the fabric so you don't see the ball.
