Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Advertisement

  • 1 egg, beaten lightly
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped

Directions

Resift flour with soda and salt. Melt shortening and combine with sugar, honey, egg and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture, oats, and 3/4 cup walnuts or pecans. Drop by tablespoonful onto lightly greased baking sheets, and flatten slightly with bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Sprinkle with remaining walnuts. Bake on upper rack of oven at 375 degrees F for about 8-10 minutes. Cool for about 3 minutes on baking sheet; then remove to wire racks.
