I am looking for a pasty recipe. It is made by the Finns in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Dumpling recipe or pasty
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup oil
3/4 cup water
2 small eggs
3 cups flour
Mix the above together. Put on floured surface to roll out thin. Cut into 1 inch stripes then cut across to make about 3 inches long. They are ready to cook, is this what you need? Good luck.

Ingredients:
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup shortening
1 1/4 cups ice water
1 teaspoon salt
5 1/2 cups thinly sliced potatoes
Whisk together flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut shortening. Make a well in the center of the mixture, and quickly stir in ice cold water. Form dough into a ball. Set aside.
Dissolve the boullion cube in the hot water. Combine uncooked vegetables, uncooked meats, salt, pepper, monosodium glutamate, and boullion.
Roll out pastry dough into 6"x8" rectangles. Place about 1 1/2 cups of filling in the center of each rectangle. Bring 6" sides together and seal. Cut a slit in the top of each pasty. Place on a dull, not black, baking pan.
Here's link that uses lard and says it is Finnish Pasty recipe. Hope it's a match or close!

I just made a big batch for some Finnish friends whose ancestry hails from the Ironwood, MI/Hurley, WI area. They were deemed, "Just like Grandma's!" A compliment doesn't get any better than that!
Pasties are from Cornwall UK. We have them all over the U.P. but they never came from Finland. Finnish, Swedes, Italians etc. have adopted the pasty, but it originated in Cornwall. Search Cornish Pasty and you will find recipes.
