In large saucepan cook onion in the butter using medium heat. Stir occasionally. Cook until tender, about 8 minutes. Stir the flour, garlic salt, and pepper into the cooked onion. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir until mixture thickens and is bubbly. Add 1/2 cup of cheese stirring until cheese has melted. Remove from heat. Place half of the sliced potatoes in a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Cover with half of the sauce. Repeat layers.
Bake covered in 350 degree F. oven for 35 minutes. Uncover casserole and bake 40 -45 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender.
Sprinkle with 1/4 cup cheese. Let stand for 5 minutes. Makes 4 servings.

Easy enough recipe. To save more time just wash the potatoes well and slice with the skins on.I also leave skins on when making potato salad and any other dish using potatoes.
That sounds like a lot of onions for 2 potatoes. Is this recipe printed right? No worry; I love onions. Will definitely try it!
