It could be anything from kennel cough to an allergy, to something partially stuck in the dog's airway. I'd get to the vet.
Get that dog to a vet! it could have swallowed something. I've had two friends save their dog's lives by going to the vet.
Hello, Please go the vet ASAP! Has your fur baby been around other dogs that have a cough, been boarded? He might have kennel cough (very treatable) please go. Good luck.
