Removing Decals From Wood?

How do you remove decals that were added to a wooden bread box and a wooden potato box over 20 years ago? They really have stayed on. No sealer, etc was brushed over them. I want to put on new decals as these are faded.

A product like Goo Gone will remove the labels but I would try using a hair drier to loosen the glue to peel them off first ... or for that matter try a wallpaper stripper. But test it on the wood first to make sure it won't damage the finish.

Good Luck!

Why not just leave them where they are and put your new decals over the old ones. Or create a "decoupage" look by putting decals or pictures all over the outer surface.

Seal with a good sealany that will help reduce sun fading and water damage. Good luck!
