A Boiled Egg Tip My Father Taught Me

Put eggs in a water filled pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil. When it is at a boil, turn the water off and leave the eggs in for the length of time that you would normally boil them. A neat money saver. The same thing can be done with corn on the cob. It tastes much fresher this way.

For corn, you can save even more money by cooking it this way:

Put 1 inch of water in the pot. Bring to a boil and throw the corn on the cob in. Cover and reduce heat, boil for 6 minutes and voila - great tasting corn.

This works for pasta too. Just boil water, add pasta, let boil for a minute or two, turn off heat--COVER--(let cool slightly if putting the lid on causes the water to overflow) and let sit until the noodles are done.
