This will make caramel for dipping apples. It is simple and safe. Take a 15 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk and put it on a rack or a towel in your crock pot. Add water to completely submerge the milk and cook on low for 8 hours exactly. Check the water level several times, although I never lost much water at all with the lid on. It makes great tasting caramel!
Source: Somewhere on the internet. I have seen this done here before on top of the stove, but not in a crock pot. The crock pot makes it much easier and safer, as there is no chance for the pot to run dry.

Oh, that's Dulce De Leche! It's an easy shortcut to make it this way and definitely safe in the can as long as the entire can remains completely covered with water and it's good that you shared that important warning! :-)
