Free Denim for Short Folks

Free denim? We are a short family. It is hard to find the 29 inch length jeans that my husband wears for work and play. I have become an expert at cutting off and hemming the 30 inch to fit. I decided if I had to cut and hem, why not buy the longest length possible 36 inch or longer. I now have extra new denim for patching or other crafts. I also do the same for my own jeans.

This would work on straight leg jeans only. If you shorten boot leg jeans it ruins the look if you cut off too much fabric.

Wow I was wondering where all the 36 inch inseams were going. LOL

My thoughts exactly. For those of us who are vertically challenged in the other direction, can we somehow use those pieces for the extra length we need? LOL

That's a great idea. Along those lines, I have wide, but short trailer windows. When I buy or order curtains, I buy the longest ones I can get. I then cut them off to fit my window and then have enough left over to make throw pillows for my bed, tie-backs, and decorate a lamp shade or make a dresser scarf.

As a "vertically challenged" woman, I had to laugh at your post. What a terrific idea! Great tip! Thanks for sharing!

Love your idea! Yep, if you already have to cut and hem might as well get the longest ones possible for the free material ;-) Thumbs up ;-)

That is a good idea, but try to find reasonably priced jeans for my grandson who needs a 34x40. The poor guy usually only has two pairs because they run $35-$40.00 each.

Then maybe more if stores where we live don't have that size when he needs a pair, then they have to be ordered, usually from the Wrangler web site.

When you hem jeans, do you use the method that keeps the orginal hem? I have short DIL's and they always bring me their jeans to hem and they love the idea of keeping the orginal hem.

That's a great idea! Many times I have found pants that were at a wonderful clearance price only passed on them because they were too long for me or my family. Next time, I'm grabbing them!
