Place 25 large cucumbers in cold water until crisp, then wipe dry and slice. Add 12 onions, sliced, and 1/2 cup of salt. Let stand for 1 hour. Do not drain. Add 1 quart vinegar and a little water, 2 1/2 cups sugar, 2 Tbsp. mustard seed, 2 Tbsp. ginger root, and 2 Tbsp. celery seed. Boil all together for 5 minutes. While hot, fill jars and seal.
