Wash Away The Salt

You can reduce the amount of salt in some prepared foods merely by washing them. A team of researchers from Durham University found that rinsing food under tap water for 1 minute can cut its salt level by as much as 80%. The researchers rinsed canned green beans and found a 41% reduction; rinsing tuna fish yielded a 79% reduction, and rinsing cottage cheese, a 56% reduction. A 3-minute rinse cuts salt by even more.
