Homemade Accent Seasoning (MSG Free)

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 306 Posts

Accent Seasoning can be made without the MSG, which many believe to be harmful. This is a Cajun version, but you could adjust the heat for your own liking.

Ingredients:

  • 26 oz. table salt
  • 5 Tbsp. cayenne pepper
  • 3 Tbsp. black pepper
  • 3 Tbsp. onion powder
  • 3 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 3 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp. thyme
  • 1 Tbsp. sweet basil
  • 1 Tbsp. bay leaf

Directions:

Mix all ingredients in a blender except the salt, do not breath in the dust. Add the salt last and blend until it is a uniform color.

Some people are sensitive to MSG and may have a reaction to it. If you are concerned, search the internet for monosodium glutamate and you will get the latest information.

This makes a tremendous amount - what are the proportions for let's say 1/2 cup total?

I'm going to use each ingredient in teaspoons instead of TABLESPOONS. then add a bunch of salt at the end.

Why is salt added last when blending?

February 11, 20200 found this helpful

Because there's so much it it won't blend the other ingredients as well

Redmond's is a natural salt mined in the mountains of Utah. I buy it from Amazon and it's hands down the best salt on the market.

What other salt can you use instead of table salt? What about Himalayan salt, is that a good salt?

I'm sure any salt can be used, just make sure it is fine grain so it mixes with the other ingredients well.

no table salt is sodium chloride, with potassium iodide most times.

MSG is sodium glutamate. Glutamate is essential to life as an essential amino acid. Your body has a lot of it all the time and produces it or you would die. Using it in food is totally harmless.

Its only effect is to activate the taste of umami the fifth taste sensation after salty, sweet, bitter and sour. This is the flavour enhancement.

Some people can't have more than their body produces due to migraine issues as well as other things.

Is sustainably-sourced copper-filtered salt ok?

The title of the recipe says its MSG free so you shouldnt include table salt that contains MSG as an ingredient because then we arent making a MSG-free recipe!!!!!

Table salt (NaCl) does not include MSG or Monosodium Glutamate. They are entirely differnet chemical compounds.

The only additive to table salt is iodine but that would be clearly marked as iodized.

Since this is such a large amount, can you freeze it.

Table salt does not contain MSG (mono sodium glutamate). It's iodized sodium chloride, an entirely different chemical compound.

Back in the day , people always said, and some that are less educated on the term today , that MSG was bad for you , and you should always look for products that were MSG FREE . But today , we now know , that Salt is worse for us than MSG.

Period. So quit worrying so much, and just use it already, ow and by the way, they have also found that MSG, doesn't cause Migraines , and other side effect's as we once thought. It's actually not bad at all...

"THEY" as usual do not have a clue. As a 11 to 15 migraine a month sufferer i would disagree. After cutting MSG out of my diet, i am 11 years Migraine free. Can you pass that along to "THEM"

This is not in any way shape or form "Accent". It sounds like it might taste good though.
