Want to make your factory oriental rug/oriental runner look more authentic?
I have a red/black/cream colored one and I colored in select cream parts of the pattern in blue permanent marker to make it look more like my late lamented oriental rug that finally succumbed to the moths! This also works to restore old faded rugs, dealers have been doing it for years. (But don't use it on any rug that might be valuable!)

I agree. You can do this technique with mass-produced oriental rugs but it's a big "NO-NO" when dealing with authentic Persian rugs. The value of the rug can be altered by making such alterations. It's important to really make sure you're dealing with a factory-made rug before doing so. Some rug owners mistakenly alter heirloom rugs -- which are actually authentic Oriental rugs.
