I need an idea of how to cover the walls in my daughter's bedroom, temporarily during renovations. Perhaps something like hanging fabric or something else that is very cheap.

What about plastic painter's drop cloths.
Good idea, and another is shower curtains and tablecloths from the Dollar Tree! The curtains even have little holes punched out for tiny nails you can yank out with your hands when the renovation is done.
