Use Hairspray. Spray, then pat with a paper towel. You will have to do this a few times before it comes all the way out, but it WILL come out. (I tried this before to see if it really did, and it did!)
Use the same sharpie. If the syrface is flat and non-porous scratch it withe the same color. Working a small section at a time, scratch the mark and right away using a paper towel or lint-free paper rub it off. Then the next section. It works on dry eraser boards. It should work on any other similar surface

How do I get brown permanent marker off of pool table cloth? Please help.
By Danielle from St. Cloud, MN
I use Soft Scrub with Bleach (not the gel) with a soft cloth or a Scotch Brite green scrubber, depending on what I am going to remove the marker ink from. On a plastic zip baggie that I put frozen food cubes in, I use the green scrubby. (07/25/2009)

I get a daily tip from Scott called "Common Sense." Yesterday the tip was about removing permanent marker. It said to use rubbing alcohol. (07/29/2009)
In the past there have been postings that said to use Off bug spray to remove permanent markers. (07/30/2009)
Dab the spot lightly with paper towel and pure acetone (beauty supply aisle will have it). It worked when my toddler used marker in my new kitchen.

Great advice. Non-acetone nail polish remover also does the trick. (08/09/2006)

My daughter decided to write all over my computer screen, LCD. We used alcohol swabs and it came off completely. Thank God. Now we know for the next time. Hopefully there won't be. (09/18/2007)

Hey everyone you can use baking soda and alcohol swabs and mix them together, then wipe the permanent marker. It works very good, especially on wooden tables. (10/12/2007)

I used baby wipes and Baking soda on a mahogany table. It worked great. Thanks for the tip. I love this web page. Oh, and of course I still love my 2 year old. Haha. (10/26/2007)

My 2 year old son drew all over my Mom's nice cabinets. She would have been so mad if it wasn't for the great tip. Thanks. I used a little Purell and Baking soda. Perfect. Didn't remove the varnish, but removed the Sharpie marker. Thank you. (12/28/2007)

The easiest way to remove permanent marker from any hard surface ie., glass, stained wood, white boards, etc. is to cover it with White Board marker then rub off. (01/27/2008)

Expo marker remover works really good on lockers and in doesn't remove the paint. (06/02/2008)

My 2 yr. old daughter scribbled all over the dashboard, doors, windows, and visors of my vehicle. The alcohol and Baking soda mix took 95% of it off. I'm impressed enough to write this. (06/08/2008)

I would recommend spraying plain old hairspray on it, wiping it (this will get rid of some of it, and might smudge, it's OK), then squeezing toothpaste on it, then finally wiping and rising it off. This worked perfectly for small plastic things, but it may not be worth it for large things. (06/09/2008)
I had a brand new yellow (spendy) shirt from a resort that my child marked with black Sharpie. I called the company and they suggested straight rubbing alcohol. The Sharpie's are alcohol based she said. Anyway, it worked like a charm. No stains even remained. Lots of alcohol and rubbing though. As far as Sharpie on furniture/appliances, a cotton ball with finger nail polish remover takes it right off.

How do you get permanent marker out of fabric?
By Lisa from Stanford, KY
Rubbing alcohol takes out permanent marker on anything. With fabric, you will see the stain spread a little when you are putting on the rubbing alcohol (don't panic); you just continue rubbing the fabric against itself and running water over it. It works miracles. (01/12/2010)

Permanent marker on glass. Baking soda and a dab of any dish detergent made into a thick paste. Spread paste on marker spot let sit for three minutes. Scrub with a small ball of aluminum foil (use a little elbow grease). Aluminum foil (balled) works wonders on pot and pans as well. Just recycle what you cooked with. No need for the disgusting Brillo pad! (01/18/2010)
