Since I frequently send cards, I buy a supply of them at yard sales and dollar stores to have on hand. While they have attractive pictures on the fronts and include thoughtful messages inside, most of the cheaper cards have no color inside.
I use various colored highlighters to softly color over the black-and-white images inside to add a bit of interest in there. They really do make a difference in the appearance of the card, and look like they were made that way.

I also love to get & use small colorful stickers inside my cards. I have various ones with pictures on the stickers, or words "Happy Birthday", etc or even various animal stickers. It makes my cards personal & caring for the person that I'm giving it to.
Ace00, you hit on almost exactly what my friend Eleanore did with my last birthday card! She used different-colored heart-shaped stickers. She even put one on the back of the card. She also emailed me a detailed description of the card ahead of time. She included the placement and color of each sticker, so I'd know where to touch to "see" them.
