We bought a new home, and I am trying to remove smudges that were left on my melamine kitchen cupboards. It looks like they used the same rag all over when they cleaned before we moved in. Can I clean Melamine with rubbing alcohol?

Are you speaking of Melamine paint or Melamine cabinets? Melamine paint used to be purchased here in U.S. but I don't believe it is available anymore. Have you tried TSP? If you follow package directions, it should do the job.
