I love this apple recipe. Also a good one for late summer and early fall when apples are ripening on the trees in our area.
Ingredients:
- 5 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 - 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. butter
Topping:
- 1/2 cup lard
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions:
Place apples in bottom of 2 quart glass casserole dish. Mix sugar and cinnamon together and mix with apples. Dot top of apples with butter.
Topping:
Cream shortening and sugar until creamy. Stir in egg. Add dry ingredients. Pat in small amounts over apples. Bake at 350 degrees F until apples are done and crust is golden brown, about 30-45 minutes.
