Most of the time old sets of encyclopedias are worth nothing. If the sets are very old there might be some artistic quality in the old pictures that are in them. For instance pictures of cities in the 1800's or even more recently. These pictures could be cut out, enlarged and put in frames. Especially pictures of places that have changed or no longer exist. I am not sure about copyrights pertaining to them but if they are for your own use or for children's projects and not for selling it probably would be fine.

Yay! Finally a good idea for uses for old encyclopedias. I also suggest cutting the pages into long triangular strips and creating beads out of the strips. Or have collages made out of pictures that represent your favorite things.
I have to say that old encyclopedias are very valuable if you really want to know the history of something. We had encyclopedias that we refer to all the time but then we got the computer we got rid of the encyclopedias. We realized what a huge mistake was made. We wanted to find out something about a place or country or topic that the computer does not address.
There is a church in our town that collects books to send to 3rd world countries for schools. Encyclopedias seem like a good thing to send. So much information!!
