I purchase the sliced American cheese (120) slices from Sam's club. I like their American cheese the best. When I get home I put all the slices of cheese in an empty bread bag and it is just as fresh months later as the day I put in the bread bag. It never molds or gets dried out. Be sure and keep a clip on the open end of the bag. Keep it in the refrigerator, and do not freeze it.

I never buy American cheese as it is not real cheese; rather a processed product.
Cheese slices are not real cheese.
That's because it probably has preservatives added or is it unprocessed block cheese actually sliced?
Probably because American cheese is processed.
American cheeses doesn't mold it oil. I have never had a problem. the mold does grow on real cheese. I like the ladies vinegar idea.
That's because sliced American 'cheese' isn't really cheese.Look at the ingredients '. It's really 'cheese food'. Yuck!
I would think that putting the vinegar dampened paper towel in a bag of already shredded cheese would also work in keeping mold from growing on the cheese...
American cheese is not "cheese". It's made from hydrogenated oils.
It will last a very long time.
It takes a long time for American cheese to mold because of all the additives and stabilizers. Real cheese will mold much faster. Not that there isnt a place in the world for American cheese!
