I need suggestions for unique or different craft items to sell at a fundraiser for our small local hospital that is in financial trouble. Our small community is already saturated with typical crafts (i.e. crocheted wash cloths, towels, hangers, etc.).

I don't know if this is a help, but maybe just collection jars in local businesses, grocers etc. Or a group door to door collections solicitation, as it sounds as though you live in a small community, and that way there is no money put out for expenses. Just funds. If you go in a group, less worry from people you are soliciting that the funds will make it to their goal, and no worry about collecting alone.
Banks could also collect for the hospital, toy stores, pharmacies, maybe if everyone in the community could commit to 10-50 cents per person. It's not much but it would get everyone involved at that amount, and then you could go on to other, ongoing projects. Right now, you could get 50 cents from someone unemployed but you might not get them to pay 5 dollars for a couple of candy bars, or a t-shirt.
What you need to aim for is the actual amount you would clear if you sold something without actually having to sell anything.
