Food Safety with Bulk Purchases

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 107 Posts

As part of my frugal shopping plan, I often buy products in large quantities to save money. That means I have to repackage some of those items once I get home. Sometimes, I will purchase bulk packages of meat, bring them home, and repackage them in small amounts to put in the freezer. I always write the date of purchase and expiration date on the package.

From experience, I recently discovered the importance of not only writing the date on the package, but also saving the original label from those products to check it against product recalls. Now I carefully remove product labels, clean them and file them until I've used all of the food.
