I have a tip for ice cubes. I twist the plastic ice cube trays to loosen the cubes, then quickly slap the tray upside down on one of those thin flexible plastic cutting boards to dislodge them. I then curl up the edges of the plastic cutting board and dump them into a pitcher or other container. The plastic cutting boards can be thoroughly washed, whereas turning the ice out onto, say, a counter top might not be as sanitary. Of course to use only a few cubes, one could pick them out with a knife.
