Alternative Options for Getting Rid of Clover

I have 3 solutions, all rethinking the problem.

  1. Don't get rid of the clover. It's a legume, and is normally there as part of a grass stand, keeping your soil fertile. You'll learn to love it.
  2. Advertisement

  3. If you still want to get rid of it for a specific reason (maybe your child is badly allergic to bee stings), then harvest it and feed it to the chickens or other animals. Or compost it with lots of shredded paper.
  4. If your animals don't like the taste, there is too much for them to eat, or you don't have animals to feed it to, consider removing your lawn. Lawns can be a waste of water. Instead, start an ornamental vegetable garden or edible landscape. Rosalind Creasy has a fine book on the subject, and there are numerous websites.

Our next door neighbors while I was growing up had a yard of clover. It was soooo nice. Cooler and softer than grass. It stayed green even through drought. Plus it didn't need to be mowed as often.

true, you did need to watch where you were stepping while barefoot. But the threat of bee stings didn't outweighed the pluses.

No I won't learn to live with it. $5,000.00 worth of Bermuda sod, and now this creeping clover is taking over in spots. If a weed killer is the only option. Guess that's what I use. And I hate the STUFF. It is ugly and not pretty.
