Recycled Shoe Hen and Chick Planter

Reuse an old leather shoe as a planter for hen and chicks or other small succulents. This is a great gift idea. Shoe Planter with Hen and Chicks planted inside

 

Approximate Time: 15 minutes

Supplies:

  • old shoe
  • succulents - hen and chicks work great
  • spoon or garden trowel
  • potting soil

Instructions:

    Old Red Ladies Shoe
     

  1. Place potting soil inside of shoe.

  2. Press your finger into the dirt where you want your plants to go. Soil in shoe
     

  3. Place your plants into the dirt.

  4. Water and place in sunny location.

My mom did this for years! we still have a pair of my 25 year old nephew's baby shoes. When my mom and dad passed away. I kept a couple pair of their shoes for planters too. I had to remove the hens and chicks for the winter season.

So many in the shoes bloomed, that they had really died back (the flower dies after it blooms). I literally had 10 or more blooms this year.
