Use Yarn to Wick Water to Houseplants

To keep house plants watered while on vacation is quite simple. Place A bowl of water near plants with yarn running from the water to a hole made in the dirt with the other end of the yarn buried.

The yarn will carry water to the plant as needed. It really works!

This is a brilliantly simple solution to a real problem! Thank you.

Not polyester yarn though...plastic won't wick...must be cotton (or something absorptive), at least partially, I'm guessing?

Other than that - awesome idea! Much better than those ridiculous, hard-to-fill glass globes!

I found this not so successful, especially on a window ledge in summer with warm weather. Works for the first few days, but quickly dries out and seems to stop wicking even though water is still in the bowl.
