My tip for saving at Disney is to always stay at a timeshare rental. For about the same cost as a hotel room, you will have a condo or house with bedrooms, bathrooms, living/dining area and full kitchen complete with washer/dryer, full sized refrigerator, stove/oven, dishwasher, dishes, cookware and bakeware. The homes are more completely furnished than hotel rooms. Many of the houses have private, screened-in swimming pools. Most are in communities with many amenities (community swimming pool, gym, gameroom, restaurant, etc.)
We recently had a family reunion in a rented home with private pool. The house was about $150. a night and had six bedrooms, four bathrooms and private pool. Three families (a total of 11 people) stayed there very comfortably. We were less than three miles from Disney.
If you are flying, the washer/dryer alone can save a lot in baggage charges (no checked bags = no baggage charges). Having the kitchen available can dramatically decrease the cost of eating out. RedWeek.com is a good source for timeshare rentals.
