When we were in an apartment with old dark laminate wood cabinets - I spruced them up by putting coordinated flower plaques from the 99 cent store on them with that gummy adnesive that comes off! Looked great and lighted up the kitchen considerably.
We put crown molding across the top of all our cabinets. Then we carefully sanded, primed, painted them cream and glazed them. Last we added new hardware. They look awesome.
