Dye from Velvet Top Transferred to Shorts?

Does anyone know how to remove black dye from white cotton shorts? My black crushed velvet dye Brazilian top somehow bled onto my white cotton shorts. I placed my top on my chair where I had my shorts and today when I was about to do laundry, I saw purple lines and spots on both pairs!

I had used "Awesome" last time to remove Uniball ink stains, but I'm terrified to try that stuff because it's actually clothing dye. Please help!

Go ahead and use the Awesome as the shorts are unwearable in this condition. If that doesn't work try chlorine bleach.

Since these are white cotton shorts, you should be able to bleach them clean. Use about a cup of bleach in a load of laundry, do not apply the bleach to the clothing as it will damage the fibers if used full strength.

If this doesn't work, try Rit Dye remover. I would launder them a time or two with bleach before trying the Rit product. Bleach should take the color out, and since the shorts are white, it will be fine.
