Supplies:

  • scrap fabric, from 1 square foot to 1 square yard
  • mini hot-glue gun
  • mini hot-glue sticks
  • scissors

Instructions:

  1. Turn on mini hot-glue gun and insert glue stick.
  2. Cut fabric into squares, utilizing as much fabric as possible (squares need not be anywhere near perfect).
  3. Arrange squares from smallest to largest in a line on your work station.
  4. Clip corners of squares to make imperfect circles.
  5. When glue gun is ready, hold a circle ready in one hand (print-side up) and apply a line of glue around half of the circle; now quickly fold the circle in half upon itself to form a sealed semi-circle (edges will slightly overlap).
  6. Trim edges so that they are flush.
  7. Continue doing this with all of your circles of fabric.
  8. Once all of them have been made into semi-circles, pick the smallest one up.

  10. Take the farthest corner of the smallest semi-circle and fold it down upon itself; this is going to be the very innermost part of your rose's bloom, where the spiral begins.
  11. Continue rolling that first piece, gluing the bottom edge upon itself until it is a little spiral "bud".
  12. Pick up the next largest semi-circle, and attach it to the bud with glue, adhering it as you twirl the bud along the bottom edge.
  13. Continue with all of your semi-circles until the petals of your rose's bloom are glued together.
  14. Now, to make it look more natural, pick a couple of places where the fabric could be easily gathered, and place a bead of glue into a pinch you hold with your fingers (this will create a nice effect, as roses are never perfect).
  15. Once you have "pleated" a few outer petals, you are finished and free to use your scrap fabric rose to embellish other crafts or make into a headband for a gift (see pictures).

Landjholt, size and count would depend on how big you want your flower! These are fun; use your imagination!
