When making potato soup, add 1 can of cream of chicken soup and one can of cream of onion soup. Thicken the soup with instant mashed potato flakes. Add a little of the flakes at a time until you get the consistency you like. I also like to add about 1/4 cup of chicken soup base. You won't believe how good this is.

I make homemade egg noodle dough and pinch off small pieces of dough to boil with the potatoes. Before I add the milk and drain most of the water off after the potatoes and noodles are cooked , I add small pieces of cooked bacon and fried onions with garlic. This give the soup the thickening I want and added flavor without needing to add commercial soup.
