Thinning Elmer's Glue That Has Gotten Thick in Bottle?

Has anyone had luck softening Elmer's glue (in the bottle) that has begun to get viscous or thick after a while with the lid not quite tight enough? What works?

Put the bottle in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. Also, adding water helps.

It depends on how thick. Just water and shake or stir; if not yet globby. Otherwise, water, a drip of vinegar, shake well, then microwave (with lid loosened, and just til warm, don't melt the plastic bottle) 10-20 seconds. Shake until cool.
