This is a bit of a different spin on traditional Waldorf salad. It has been in my late husband's family for years and was always a staple on our Thanksgiving, Christmas, and/or Easter dinner table.
Mix gelatin, sugar and salt with 1/2 cup of the water in a small sauce pan. Heat until dissolved. Remove from heat.
Stir in 1 cup water and lemon juice. Refrigerate until thickened (about 30-40 minutes). Makes 4 cups.
Fold in apples, celery and nuts and refrigerate until set.

Dissolve gelatin in 1 cup hot water in large bowl. Chill until partially set. Add salt and mayonnaise, blending well. Fold in remaining ingredients. Pour into 1 qt. mold. Chill until firm.
