Can I use Dawn dish soap to get rid of fleas on my dog?
By Connie
Connie, Dawn is the most awesome flea killer. My daughter in law turned me onto it and I've used it ever since. It has to be the "blue" dawn. Just soap up the dog with it and you will actually see those critters rise to the top and fall off. Not only does it work, it's an inexpensive cure. Good Luck.
Dawn has been used for lice on kids, and for oil on birds in oil spill areas. Just keep it out of their eyes. First put a thick ribbon of it all around their neck. When they get into the water the fleas will run in their ears or eyes. This thick ribbon of dawn helps the fleas die before getting to run into their face. Any fleas that do, just pick off.
Leave it on them for about ten minutes, just let them run around with it on them. You could just wash it off right away and it will kill most of the the fleas anyway.
Dawn is my favorite detergent since it does kill so many things that bother animals. For small puppies, that are realllly small, sometimes I will use peroxide and baby shampoo and also on kittens. But I have bathed them in dawn as well. Rinse it all off and go over them with a flea comb. The vet has great topical treatments that work once a month. Some can be taken as a chewable pill, some have to be applied to the skin. (not the fur, the skin, when you part the fur and put it on there.) I like to use Advantage.

I've found, on the internet that Dawn dishsoap is a good remedy for fleas. However, I am wondering how often should I bathe my puppy Mahina, with it per week. I don't want to bathe her all the time because I've heard that bathing her a lot is actually bad for her and what about the eggs? Does it help get rid of them as well?

I have bathe my two girls every week to two weeks with no problems. I even used it on myself to shampoo my hair before I used it on my girls.
I took in four 8 week old feral puppies that had been living in an old lumber yard. They were literally covered in fleas. I bathed them all in Dawn dish soap, being them good and soapy, then used a flea comb to insure all the little creepers off them. 99% Flea free I then took them to the vet where they each received the oral Flea med "Capstar" quick killed any remaining fleas on the body within an hour. The next morning I gave them Nexguard which will kill the eggs. No more fleas.
How long does it take for Dawn dish soap to kill dog fleas?
By Angie
I use Dawn full strength on my two girls. The fleas start dying as you are shampooing your dog. Remember to always start with the neck so the fleas don't escape to the ears and nose. If you can keep the lather on your dog for 5 minutes the better.

Give your dogs a bath in Dawn dish washing detergent once a month over the summer months (when fleas are at their worse).
